What a Week!!

HIII EVERYBODY!!!
What a week it has been!! This is gonna be kind of a long email because lots has happened this week!! Let’s get into it!

Monday night, we went to our friend Aerial’s house! Aerial is genuinely one of my besties—I just love her so much, and she's so fun to talk to! High key, I get distracted when we go over because we just talk and talk and talk. It's so fun to teach her!

Anyway, we went over Monday night and she introduced us to her cousin Kasha!! Kasha is literally the sweetest ever. She also wants to grow a stronger relationship with Jesus Christ! We got to teach them all about the gospel of Jesus Christ. The Spirit was so strong, so we invited Kasha to be baptized the same Sunday as Aerial. She said she doesn’t feel all the way ready quite yet. Then our member friend Andrew, who we brought with us, legit bore a super strong testimony. She could feel it, and it was so cute—Aerial started bearing testimony to Kasha about the importance of being baptized with priesthood authority! (SHE'S SO COOL!!) Kasha then accepted to be baptized on June 8th and even asked us what commandments she needs to start working on! I LOVE THEM. Like, my two besties for real!!

1 AM Tuesday morning, our phones were screaming at us with a tornado alert. We ignored them at first, but then at 1:11 AM we heard a huge bang and the loudest wind ever. Our house legit started shaking. There’ve been lots of tornados recently, but this was the first time I was genuinely scared. So we grabbed our blankets and legit sprinted to our basement. It seriously felt like our roof was gonna be taken right off the house. Anyways, it didn’t—and all was well. After 40 minutes in the basement, we came back up and went to bed.

Tornado at 1am, so pic of us in the basement lol!

The next morning, we got a knock on our door from two yard-workin’ men, and they told us a huge tree had fallen on our roof. Btw—God is SO real because I don't know how it didn’t fall through the roof. They offered to take the tree off, but of course, for a price. Sister Richins and I, being the trusty homeowners we are, told them we’d talk to our landlord. After they left, we went out to see just how big this tree was. From our view in the street, it looked like something Sister Richins and I could simply pull off.

So, we tried many methods to get it off (btw—we don’t have a ladder). We used a stool so I could reach the tree and pull it off. The stool was just barely not tall enough. Then Sister Richins offered for me to stand on her shoulders just for a second to pull it off. It was the perfect idea... until my foot slipped on the way up and I fell right down—slicing my hand on the roof gutter. We were laughing so hard, but then realized my hand was bleeding a lot. So we had to call our mission doctor.

The mission doctor sent us to two different clinics and then the ER. The clinics couldn’t take me, so we went to the ER. We got there at 3 PM and sat for hours. We had to reschedule all our awesome appointments and even our dinner one :(.

At 9 PM, our patience was running thin—my hand was still cut open, one phone was dead and the other at 10%, and we'd been waiting for six hours. We called the mission doctor again, and he told us to keep waiting. Sister Richins and I had been praying that I’d be seen soon so we could get home and prep for our early morning drive to zone conference the next day.

Miracle alert: Out of the blue, a member called and asked if we were still at the ER. We told her yes, and she suggested we call a member in our ward who’s a doctor. So we called Brother Hyatt at around 9:15 PM. He told us to meet him at his clinic, and he brought his whole family with him. At 9:45 PM, I was finally getting stitched up!! It was genuinely a miracle. By 10:15 PM, we were done and headed home to bed. I'm so grateful to the Hyatts for stitching me up—I swear we would've been at the ER until like 3 AM. GOD IS GOOD!!

Update on Dennis: Our friend from last week is seriously so cool. This past week, he went to Book of Mormon class andinstitute—and he brought a friend (Phaedra)!! We taught him and invited him to be baptized on June 15th! He told us that everything we teach just makes sense. He’s so cool—and he has a car!! This past Sunday, he brought us the biggest pack of cigarettes and some coffee cups to help him quit before baptism! It was so funny because he brought them to church, so we were just carrying around a huge pack of cigs until we could quickly run them to the car lol.

Wednesday, we had an exchange, and I got to go with Sister Tippetts and Sister Hughes! It was so fun! I was Sister Hughes' STL two transfers ago, so it was great being with her again. Sister Tippetts and I were in the same district when she first came out a year ago! Crazy how fast time flies! It was such a fun exchange—we saw so many miracles with some super cool people to teach up in Farmington, Missouri (their area)! We also stayed up way too late. These girls are some of my best friends, so it was soo so sooo good. Also, their apartment complex had a tanning bed. So that was a dub! hahaha

Hit the tanning bed as soon as I got to Farmington, the tanline is so bad 😭

Sunday was amazing! Aerial and Kasha came to church with our member friend Analinda and her husband! It’s so cute because they’ve all created a friendship outside of missionary lessons—they even hung out the other night! At church, they all stayed after for Larry’s baptism and started planning their own baptisms with Analinda!! It was so presh!! We also had Phaedra, Dennis, and Larry’s mom, Shelly at church with us! So much is happening here in LaSalle—I know God is answering my prayers (and the ones y’all said for me a few weeks ago). God is SO good!

The YW got me flowers because of my hand and signed a card for me!! So presh!! 🥰

LARRY GOT BAPTIZED THIS WEEK!!!

Larry was absolutely radiating. He has worked so hard. I honestly can't even believe he did it!! His addiction was so real and so hard to overcome. Watching him overcome it and be baptized was the biggest reward ever!! He is amazing, and he even invited his mama—who was also just glowing. Every time I see a friend be baptized, I’m reminded of the real reason I’m here. Watching people make promises with Heavenly Father to return to Him is actually the BEST. I’m def doing this for the rest of my life!

Also—last Wednesday was my very last zone conference. Crazy! I can’t get over how fast this has all gone. It was up in St. Louis, which was so tender because I got to drive through my baby area! In my mission, our presidents LOVE the hymns. We’ve done hymn fasts, hymn testimonies, hymn everything lol. I’m not a huge hymn girl, but I appreciate how it’s helped me dive into something I never would have before.

For our departing testimonies, we were asked to share our “hymn testimonies,” which are basically testimonies written using hymn lyrics. Here's mine—I wanted to share it with y’all:

Soy una hija de Dios
I know my Father lives and loves me too.
The Spirit whispers this to me and tells me it is true.
I kneel to pray every day. I speak to Heavenly Father.
He hears and answers me when I pray in faith.
Heavenly Father, are you really there?
And do you hear and answer every child’s prayer?
Some say that heaven is far away,
But I feel it close around me as I pray.
We bow our heads and close our eyes and say a little prayer.
We thank our Father graciously for blessings we all share.
What does the Father ask of us? What do the scriptures say?
Have faith, have hope, live like His Son, help others on their way.
What does He ask? Live like His Son.
I’m trying to love my neighbor; I’m learning to serve my friends.
I watch for the day of gladness when Jesus will come again.
I feel my Savior’s love; Its gentleness enfolds me.
And when I kneel to pray, my heart is filled with peace.
He knows I will follow Him, give all my life to Him.
I feel my Savior’s love, the love He freely gives me.
Soy una hija de Dios.
I say these things in the name of Jesus Christ, Amen.
